Information regarding Recycling Centres

Not sure if everyone is aware that HCC is bringing in an Automatic Number plate recognition system for the use of its recycling centres. (eg Wade Road).

As this hasn’t been very well publicised, we felt it worth circulating to our members. (Apologies if you already know this but better twice than not at all…)

Below is an extract from the HCC website – Automatic Number plate recognition system

How the vehicle registration system works

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will check the registration of vehicles entering the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) against the number plates that have been registered with the Hampshire database.

Hampshire residents, including Southampton and Portsmouth, who have pre-registered up to 3 cars or 4x4s will be able to freely enter the sites without any delays or further checks being required.

Vehicles that are not on the system will be flagged to HWRC site staff who can then approach the customer and discuss the situation.

The online registration system is now available, please see the vehicle registration homepage to complete the web form.

Once you have registered you can visit the HWRC straight away. The system is online so you will not receive or require a paper permit to visit the HWRC in a car or 4×4.

You can register up to three vehicles per address.

You only need to register once. It should take a maximum of two minutes.

You will need to provide the following:

  • name
  • address
  • phone number
  • email address
  • vehicle registrations

You will not need proof of residence.

Our ANPR system is not connected to the DVLA. If your vehicle is registered at another address with the DVLA you can still register your vehicle with Hampshire’s system to visit the HWRCs.

For residents without internet access, please call 0300 555 1389 to register.
