Sunday 27th July – lead by Annie Vicars and Rob Lenoir.  4.5 miles around Wolverton Common.  Having reccied the walk at 8am one day to beat the heat, our 7 intrepid walkers enjoyed this pleasant and gentle stroll through fields and woods in comfortable conditions.  Not dwelling too much on the dormant (as in, very sadly, deceased) feline which we were able, indirectly, to reunite with its owner, the rest of the walk passed uneventfully – more plank bridges than ever seen before on 1 walk – culminating in a very passable meal at the Kingsclere Bel & Dragon, again not ‘dwelling too much on the’ forgotten credit cards of both Annie  AND  Rob!   Thank you, Lynn!!!

Wednesday 30th April – lead by Lynn Martin.  Walk to Overton with meal after.   On a sunny spring evening seven members met up at the Oakley school layby to walk to Overton.  We walked over the fields at the back of St Leonard’s church to the railway bridge at Steventon and then through wooded paths to the crossroads at Ashe.  We passed Ashe church before completing the walk down into Overton.  At The Old House at Home in Overton we met up with a further seven members where we were made very welcome and enjoyed a delicious Thai meal.  It was a delightful evening with good company.

Sunday 27th April – lead by Heather Wilson.  A 6.5 mile circular walk around Farley Mount.  Walk. Farley Mount

Wednesday 9th April – lead by Christine and Steve Savage.  On a very sunny April morning, 10 walkers did a very pleasant 5.5 mile circular walk in the Winchfield/Dogmersfield area, starting along the Basingstoke Canal, passing many streams and lakes and arriving back in time for lunch at the Barley Mow, Winchfield. Recent dry, sunny weather ensured that almost all the winter mud had dried up, making the going very easy.

Sunday 24th March – Theale circular walk.  A 10 mile Sunday walk from Theale bridge via Aldermaston Wharf was enjoyed by 7 of our members. Despite a slightly overcast start we enjoyed beautiful views across fishing lakes and countryside near the Kennet & Avon Canal, with field & wooded paths, some road walking (unavoidable with so much water round) and the last 4 miles along the towpath, after a tasty lunch at the Aldermaston Wharf tearoom. We didn’t quite make it back to the cars before the forecast rain arrived, but it failed to spoil a really good walk.

Wednesday 12th March – Overton circular walk lead by Pat Dominey.  With grey skies and a recent rain shower 6 walkers set off from Overton Hill CP to enjoy a circular walk, via Flashetts and then uphill to cross the railway heading towards The Harrow Way. We were rewarded with dry, partly sunny weather, minimal mud, some great views and an absence of traffic noise. Leaving The Harrow Way, we wandered down a wooded path towards Southington and spent a few minutes enjoying the clear water of the Test with ducks, daffodils coming into bloom and a single trout. After crossing B3400, we headed up Vinns Lane, following a footpath, then quiet road to complete our circular walk. A feeling of satisfaction after a great 5 mile walk in excellent company.

Sunday 23rd February – Oakley 8 mile walk lead by Dave Thomas.  On Sunday 23 Feb a small group of Oakley Ramblers gathered and braved the poor weather forecast to complete an 8 mile walk to the south of Oakley.   Despite it being overcast, and a little muddy underfoot, we had a great walk.  It was especially nice to see the appearance of the snowdrops- spring is on the way.   Luck was on our side today and it stayed dry for the whole walk that ended with a welcome drink in the Barley Mow.

Wednesday 12th February – Steventon, Oakley, North Waltham.  On 12th February 9 walkers set off from Steventon Church, for a 5 mile walk, which included Oakley and North Waltham. The weather was dry, and although the fields were muddy, the walk was enjoyable.
Six walkers enjoyed a post walk meal at the Wheatsheaf.

2025

Saturday 28th December – ORC Post Xmas walk & meal – lead by Pat Dominey.  On a dull cloudy & slightly misty morning, 12 set off from school lay-by, prepared for mud and more mud. We enjoyed a circular walk of around 5.5miles, heading out towards Bulls Bushes Copse & Southdown Farm, with views over the countryside, before circling back along a stretch of multi user path then Fuzzy Drove & back to Oakley via Puzzle Corner. No mishaps along the way, just muddy boots.  16 then enjoyed a leisurely lunch in Barley Mow. After lots of chat, good service & tasty well cooked meals, we headed home, as it was getting dark, after a good day out.

Sunday 10th November – Ashmansworth – lead by Julie Shawley and Dayl Wallace.  Twelve walkers enjoyed 5.5 miles of rolling countryside with some misty views, beautiful autumn colours, a 12th Century church and a fabulous Sunday lunch after.

Thursday 10th October – Laverstoke to Whitchurch – lead by Matthew and Susan Sambuni –

We led a walk on Thursday from Laverstoke to Whitchurch along the Test Valley.  We stopped half way at

Sunday 29th September – Silchester – lead by Steve and Christine Savage – Managing for once to avoid the incessant rain, six ramblers and a dog set out on a September Sunday morning from Silchester to complete a 7-mile circular walk through Silchester Common and Pamber Forest, returning via the Roman walls at Calleva Atrebatum. The walk consisted of pretty woodland, paths, bridleways and country lanes and was enjoyed by all.
